How Rent Payments Work for Owners

Track tenant payments, see who paid and who is overdue, record offline payments, and understand processing fees.

Before you start:
  • You have a LeaseBase owner account with at least one property and active tenants.
1

View your payment dashboard

Go to Payments in your owner dashboard. Charges are organized by status: Paid, Due, Overdue, and Partially Paid. Each charge shows the tenant name, amount, due date, and current status.

2

See who has paid

Click any charge to see its full payment history including transaction dates, amounts, payment method, and receipt numbers. The owner view shows the rent amount, not the fee-inclusive total the tenant paid.

3

Track overdue charges

The Overdue section highlights charges past their due date. Partially paid charges show the remaining balance. Late fees are generated automatically after your configured grace period.

4

Record offline payments

If a tenant paid by cash or check, click Record Payment. Select the charge, enter the amount and method (Cash or Check), and a receipt number is generated. The charge balance updates automatically.

5

Monitor payouts

If you’ve connected your bank via Stripe Connect, go to the Payouts section to see transfer amounts and deposit dates for collected rent.

Common questions

What processing fees are there?

Card payments incur a 3.25% processing fee paid by the tenant. ACH bank transfers have a $0 fee — the cost is absorbed into your LeaseBase subscription.

Can I see what fee the tenant paid?

The owner payment view shows the rent portion only, not the fee-inclusive amount. This keeps your income tracking clean and separate from processing fees.

What happens when a co-tenant makes a partial payment?

The charge goes to PARTIALLY_PAID status. The remaining balance is visible to all co-tenants on the lease. Each tenant can pay their share independently.
